Katy ISD Hosts 34th Annual Folk Life FestivalKaty ISD Hosts 34th Annual Folk Life Festival2019-03-21T14:54:14Z<div class="ExternalClassA3F47D0335C3467A8E7C22DE64D1F091"><p><span style="text-align:justify;">Ever wondered what life was like in Texas during the late 1800's?  At the upcoming 34</span><sup style="text-align:justify;">th</sup><span style="text-align:justify;"> </span><a href="/dept/olc/Pages/FolkLifeFestival.aspx" style="text-align:justify;">Annual Folk Life Festival</a><span style="text-align:justify;">, visitors will get a chance to experience pioneer life by seeing how they dressed, how they survived, the types of foods they prepared and even where their children went to school.  Other activities </span>include:<span style="text-align:justify;">  blacksmith demonstrations, hand quilting, woodworking </span>and<span style="text-align:justify;"> roping skills presentations.  Admission is only $1.</span><br></p><p style="text-align:justify;">Visitors will also be able to walk the nature trails, visit the duck ponds and see the exhibits in the science and history classrooms. </p><p style="text-align:justify;"><strong>What:             <br>34</strong><strong><sup>th</sup></strong><strong> Annual Folk Life Festival</strong></p><p><strong>Where:</strong>           <br>Kenneth D. 2019-2020 Pre-Kindergarten Registration Coming Soon2019-2020 Pre-Kindergarten Registration Coming Soon2019-02-26T22:08:01Z<div class="ExternalClass0439DDF299CE4E34A26C33F8BE9079D0"><p><span style="text-align:justify;">The</span><strong style="text-align:justify;"> </strong><span style="text-align:justify;">Katy Independent School District Pre-Kindergarten program registration for the 2019-2020 school year will take place April 16, </span>2019<span style="text-align:justify;"> for children who qualify and are zoned to the District.  Prior to registration day, parents of those students eligible for the program are encouraged to complete the online registration process through </span><a href="/registration/Pages/default.aspx" style="text-align:justify;">Katy ISD's PowerSchool Registration website</a><span style="text-align:justify;">, which will become available beginning March 4, 2019.</span><br></p><p><span style="text-decoration:underline;"><strong>Pre-Kindergarten classes will be held at the following campuses:</strong></span></p><p><span style="text-decoration:underline;">English Speaking Classes</span>:  Alexander, Bear Creek, Cimarron, Creech, Exley, Franz, Golbow, Griffin, Hayes, Holland, Katy, Kilpatrick, King, Mayde Creek, McRoberts, Memorial Parkway, Morton Ranch, Rhoads, Rylander, Stephens, Sundown, West Memorial and Winborn elementary schools.</p><p><span style="text-decoration:underline;">Spanish Speaking Classes</span>:  Bear Creek, Campbell, Fielder, Franz, Hutsell, Jenks, King, McRoberts, Memorial Parkway, Morton Ranch, Rhoads, Schmalz, Stephens, Sundown and Williams elementary schools.Katy ISD had implemented certain exceptions for students zoned to elementary schools which do not offer the Pre-Kindergarten program.  These include:<br></p><ul><li>Students zoned to Wolfe Elementary will register at Bear Creek Elementary.</li><li>Students zoned to Randolph, Davidson, Stanley, Shafer, Wilson and Wolman will register at Griffin Elementary.</li><li>Students zoned to Bryant Elementary will register at Katy Elementary.</li><li>Students zoned to Bethke Elementary will register at King Elementary.</li><li>Students zoned to Pattison Elementary will register at Hayes Elementary.</li><li>Students zoned to Nottingham Country will register at Memorial Parkway Elementary.</li><li>Students zoned to WoodCreek will register at Rylander Elementary.</li><li>Students zoned to Olga Leonard Elementary will register at Morton Ranch Elementary.</li></ul><p>The Katy ISD Pre-Kindergarten program follows the state guidelines set for Pre-K which focus on oral language development, reading and math readiness, as well as developing science and social studies knowledge and skills.  Click the <a href="/Documents/022619_Pre%20Kindergarten%20Registration.pdf">Katy ISD Pre-Kindergarten program link</a> for additional information about eligibility requirements or call the Office of Interventions, at 281-237-7062.<br></p><p><br></p></div>
Katy ISD Names New Superintendent of SchoolsKaty ISD Names New Superintendent of Schools2019-01-15T04:28:34Z<div class="ExternalClass8DBFBD071CF2430A803710635295A9E1"><p>Katy ISD Board of Trustees voted 7-0 to name Ken Gregorski as the new superintendent of schools.<br></p><p>Gregorski is a veteran educator with 26 years of experience in public education. Having served as a teacher, associate principal, principal, assistant superintendent, and deputy superintendent in school districts of different sizes and varying needs, he has demonstrated the ability to lead with determination, vision, and a deep understanding of a community's priorities. He is also the father of two secondary students currently enrolled in Katy ISD schools. </p><p>"It is my mission to provide leadership and direction for Katy ISD to ensure our educational system is based upon the needs of our students, standards of excellence and equity, and on community goals," said new Superintendent of Schools Ken Gregorski.</p><p>During his tenure as deputy superintendent, Gregorski played an integral role in laying the groundwork for the current model of student learning in Katy ISD through his supervision of the School Leadership and Support Department, Human Resources, and the Athletics Department. As superintendent of schools, it is expected that Gregorski will maintain Katy ISD's current direction, sustain its continuity of leadership, and guide the District toward fulfilling the goals of its five-year strategic plan.<br></p><p><img src="/PublishingImages/Lists/latestnews/AllItems/Gregorski,%20Kenneth-%20017%204x5.jpg" alt="Gregorski, Kenneth- 017 4x5.jpg" style="margin:5px;width:444px;" /><br></p></div>
Katy ISD Earns Place on AP District Honor RollKaty ISD Earns Place on AP District Honor Roll2018-12-20T16:03:17Z<div class="ExternalClass8A14B14871EE4445AAD9456B0A90040B"><p>Katy Independent School District is one of 373 school districts in the United States and Canada being honored by the College Board with placement on the 9<sup>th</sup> Annual AP<sup>®</sup> District Honor Roll<strong> </strong>for increasing access to Advanced Placement (AP) course work.<br></p><p>AP final scores are reported on a 5-point scale with 5 being extremely well qualified, 4 is well qualified, 3 is qualified, 2 is possibly qualified and 1 is a no recommendation.<br><span style="text-align:justify;"><br>"From 2017 to 2018, the number of AP exams administered in Katy ISD increased by 20 percent and the number of students participating in AP exams increased by 25 percent," said Alene Lindley, Katy ISD Director of Secondary Curriculum, GT and Advanced Academics.</span><span style="text-align:justify;">  </span><span style="text-align:justify;">"In Katy ISD, 77.4 percent of the 2018 AP exams were scored at a three (3) or better, validating the hard work of both students and teachers," added Lindley.</span><br></p><p>To be included on the AP District Honor Roll, participating districts must: </p><ul><li>Increase participation/access to AP course work by at least 4 percent in large districts, at least 6 percent in medium districts and at least 11 percent in small districts.</li><li>Increase or maintain the percentage of exams taken by Black/African American, Hispanic/Latino, American Indian/Alaska Native and Native Hawaiian/Other Pacific Islander students who scored a 3 or higher on at least one AP exam.</li><li>Improve or maintain performance levels when comparing the percentage of students in 2018 scoring a three (3) or higher to those in 2016, unless the district has already attained a performance level at which more than 70 percent of its AP students are scoring a 3 or higher. </li></ul><p style="text-align:justify;">For more information on the AP District Honor Roll, visit the <a href="https://apcentral.collegeboard.org/about-ap/awards/district-honor-roll">College Board website.</a><br></p><p><br></p></div>
