  • What specifically do counselors do?

School counselors provide educational, social and emotional support for students in a variety of ways to help them be successful.  I visit classrooms regularly, provide small group sessions and visit with students individually as needed.  I am also available to meet with parents and teachers for assistance and support. I provide referrals to community resources as needed.

    Professional School Counselors provide

a Comprehensive Guidance Program in their schools,

which includes these four major areas:

    1. Guidance Curriculum:   Helps all students to develop skills in these areas in classroom or campus-wide activities:
    • Building Self-confidence
    • Motivation to achieve
    • Decision making, goal setting, planning, and problem solving
    • Interpersonal effectiveness

Counselor's Café-kindergarten through 5th grade students are invited to join me in small groups for lunch during the school year.  We talk about a variety of topics including what they like to do when they are not at school, favorite subjects, pets, or whatever they want to talk about, giving us a chance to get to know each other in a more informal setting.

October is  Anti-Bullying Month-videos and lessons are provided school-wide to educate students and prevent bullying.
