Katy ISD welcomes all new-to-the-profession teachers to attend First Year Teacher Academy on Monday, July 29, 2019 and Tuesday, July 30, 2019 at the ESC. This two-day event will provide new-to-the-profession teachers with classroom management strategies, relationship building techniques, opportunities to meet District department personnel, and personalized learning experiences.

Monday, July 29, 2019

8:00AM-8:30AM 

Welcome address from Superintendent, Ken Gregorski and Board President, Courtney Doyle

8:30AM-11:30AM 

Secondary teachers will participate in an interactive session with Debbie Boyer as they learn strategies for their first year of teaching. 

Elementary teachers will meet and learn about District departments and how the departments will support them throughout the year.

11:30AM-12:30PM

Lunch 

12:30PM-3:30PM

Elementary teachers will participate in an interactive session with Debbie Boyer as they learn strategies for their first year of teaching. 

Secondary teachers will meet and learn about District departments and how the departments will support them throughout the year.


Tuesday, July 30, 2019

8:00AM-8:20AM

Welcome address from Chief Academic Officer, Dr. Christine Caskey

8:30AM-11:20AM

Teachers will participate in a personalized learning experience as they rotate between choice sessions presented by District personnel. The sessions include topics such as, classroom management, professionalism, communication, growth mindset, feedback, building relationships, diverse learners, and how to rock your first year of teaching, just to name a few. Teachers will choose from approximately 50 different sessions 

11:30AM-1:00PM

Lunch - new-to-the-profession teachers will have the opportunity to meet and visit with their assigned mentor

1:00PM-4:00PM

Teachers will participate in a personalized learning experience as they rotate between choice sessions presented by District personnel.
