Katy ISD Celebrates Winter GraduationKaty ISD Celebrates Winter Graduation2022-01-21T16:35:25Z<div class="ExternalClass29B60D5916C640AEB6ED3DC6E2D62914"><p><span style="text-align:justify;">High School Graduation is considered one of the most important milestones in a student's life, oftentimes described as a “rite of passage" to the next chapter in the graduate's journey.  Last night Katy ISD hosted the annual winter graduation ceremony honoring 105 seniors ready to begin the next chapter by pursuing a college or career path.  Seniors may elect to graduate mid-year for a variety of reasons and Katy ISD is proud to recognize their achievement.</span><br></p><p style="text-align:justify;">“There are a variety of reasons why seniors elect to graduate mid-year.  Mid-year graduates may desire to enter the workforce immediately, enroll in college or a technical school for the spring or join the military, said Ronnie Edwards, Assistant Superintendent for School Leadership and Support.   “Campus counselors and college & career facilitators are instrumental in advising students how to graduate mid-year if this is one of their goals" added Edwards. <br></p><p style="text-align:justify;">“Over the past two years, the Class of 2021 has faced much adversity, yet has consistently demonstrated strength and resilience," said Ashley Vann, Katy ISD Board Trustee.  “They have learned remarkable academic and life lessons, and overcome challenges culminating in moments of triumph," added Vann. <br></p><p style="text-align:justify;">Congratulations to our Class of 2021 winter graduates!<br></p><p style="text-align:justify;"><a href="">Pictures of the Winter Graduation Ceremony</a><br></p><p style="text-align:justify;"> </p><p><br></p></div>
Katy ISD Seven Lakes High Cheer Wins Another State ChampionshipKaty ISD Seven Lakes High Cheer Wins Another State Championship2022-01-18T23:15:20Z<div class="ExternalClass7C08CA9A71F048E5A8334B96FB614DA0"><p><span style="text-align:justify;">I</span><span style="text-align:justify;">t</span><span style="text-align:justify;"> was a competitive cheer event that brought together hundreds of cheer squads from across Texas, but it was ultimately the Seven Lakes High School (SLHS) Spartan Spirit that prevailed, earning them the 6A UIL State Championship. </span><br></p><p style="text-align:justify;">“Two back-to-back championship wins is a reflection of the hard work and teamwork our student athletes demonstrate every day.  This year you could tell that the squad came back for more," said SLHS Cheer Coach Amy Weaston.  “This accomplishment adds on to our 2019 third-place state win," added Weaston.  <br></p><p style="text-align:justify;">Other Katy ISD teams who placed in the UIL Spirit State Championship events include:<br></p><ul><li>Tompkins High School Cheer Team – Third place at the 6A-D1 competition</li><li>Mayde Creek High School – Fifth place at the 6A-D1 competition</li><li>Cinco Ranch High School – Thirteenth place and Winner of Crowd Leading Award at 6A-D1 Competition </li></ul><span style="font-size:14px;">Jordan High School Cheer Team – Fourth place and winner Crowd Leading Award at the 5A-D2 competition</span><br style="font-size:14px;"><br style="font-size:14px;"><span style="font-size:14px;">T</span><span style="font-size:14px;">he 2022 Conference UIL State Spirit Championship, which took place in Fort Worth, Texas, focused on showcasing cheer technical skills and sideline crowd-leading material in a game-day presentation format.</span><br><img src="file:///C:/Users/C1660359/AppData/Local/Temp/msohtmlclip1/01/clip_image004.jpg" alt="" style="width:624px;margin:5px;" /><p style="text-align:center;"><img src="/PublishingImages/011822_Picture_SLHS%20Cheer%20Championship%20Win.jpg" alt="" style="margin:5px;width:600px;height:329px;" /> </p><p><br></p></div>
Katy Virtual School Registration Opens SoonKaty Virtual School Registration Opens Soon2022-01-18T21:44:16Z<div class="ExternalClass36F0F4C11A1C443C80C82BEC723D5643"><p><span style="text-align:justify;">For some Katy ISD soon to be 9</span><sup style="text-align:justify;">th</sup><span style="text-align:justify;"> through 12</span><sup style="text-align:justify;">th</sup><span style="text-align:justify;"> grade students, supplemental virtual classes are an excellent option for earning graduation credits and expanding learning opportunities.  On Tuesday, February 1, Katy Virtual School (KVS), a paid, supplemental online course program, will begin registration for the Summer 2022, Fall 2022 and Spring 2023 semesters</span><span style="text-align:justify;">.</span><br></p><p style="text-align:justify;">“This paid, supplemental virtual model of e-learning is in high demand with our high school students because it supports graduation plans and delivers quality instruction to Katy ISD learners, outside of normal school hours," said Susan Richards, Katy ISD Instructional Technology e-Learning Manager. “KVS courses support students who need a flexible schedule to participate in programs during the school day. It's an excellent opportunity for students," added Richards.  </p><p style="text-align:justify;">KVS offers a wide range of courses from Creative Writing, AP Art History, English III, World Geography, Economics, Psychology and more. There are over 45 Advanced Placement (AP), Katy Advanced Program (KAP) and academic level courses available to students with additional opportunities being added each year.  Most KVS courses are $200 per semester. </p><p style="text-align:justify;">Over 4,000 high school students enroll in the District's KVS program each year.  Since its launch in 2013, the primary goal of KVS is to offer choice and flexibility in challenging online courses developed and taught by Katy ISD teachers.  </p><p style="text-align:justify;">For more information, students can visit with their campus counselor, email KVS at <a href=""></a> or visit the <a href="">Katy ISD Virtual School</a> website. ​<br></p><p style="text-align:justify;"><br></p><p style="text-align:center;"><img src="/PublishingImages/KVS%20transparent.png" alt="" style="margin:5px;width:400px;height:132px;" /><br></p></div>
