Katy ISD Grading*
*In August 2019, Katy ISD updated its grading policy.
Removal of the D Letter Grade from the Grading Scale
Katy ISD recently removed the “D” letter grade from its grading scale as part of the August 2019 grading policy update. This change will benefit Katy ISD students when applying to institutions and scholarship organizations that convert the 100-point scale to a 4.0 scale. The removal of the “D” letter grade aligns with other school districts in the state that have done the same, thus enabling Katy ISD students to remain competitive in college admissions and scholarship processes.
Changes to Class Rank Reporting
In addition to the removal of the “D,” from the letter grade scale, there are also some changes to the reporting of class rank.
Students who began the 2019-20 school year as juniors, sophomores or freshmen will see a modification to the previous class rank reporting practice. While all eleventh grade students in the top 10% will continue to receive a class rank in the spring semester of their junior year, all other students will receive a quartile rank at that same time. This will have no adverse effect on students below the top 10%, as Texas universities and colleges only require the reporting of rankings within the top 10%, and quartile rankings beyond that.
This year’s graduating seniors (class of 2020) will adhere to the previous class rank reporting practice in which a rank will be issued for every member of that class.
More information about class rank can be found in the Academic Achievement Class Ranking EIC Policy.
