Katy ISD Board Approves 2% Pay Increase ISD Board Approves 2% Pay Increase2021-01-05T13:34:48Z<div class="ExternalClass33082E12AFD7425C8E952113EBC837B4"><p>During a time when uncertainties arising from a public health crisis has led to a sea of unknowns for communities across the nation, this past spring Katy ISD teachers and staff forged ahead, connecting with over 84,000 students through innovative instruction and support. </p><p>Although challenging times are still anticipated in the near future, the Katy ISD Board and superintendent made it a budget priority this school year to ensure teachers and staff would be recognized for their ongoing commitment to the District’s students and community.  At their June Board meeting, Trustees approved a 1% midpoint raise for all Katy ISD employees, followed by a 1% midpoint lump sum pay increase this coming December.   </p><p>“It’s because of our employees’ drive and passion to be there for our kids and establish relationships with families, regardless of circumstances, that Katy ISD students consistently outperform students from across the state,” said Dr. Ken Gregorski, Superintendent of Schools. “They ensure that our students have access to resources, opportunities and experiences that have positioned Katy ISD as a destination school district.” </p><p> Katy ISD teachers will receive a $660 raise, along with another $660 lump sum payment in December, for a total increase of $1,320. While, non-teachers will receive one percent of the mid-point of their pay ranges. Katy ISD staff will receive the one percent raise beginning with their first check of the 2020-21 school year.   </p><p>Katy ISD’s pay ranges include a hierarchy of job levels with pay guidelines for minimum, midpoint and maximum rates of pay.  Pay guidelines are based on an assessment of the market values for each employee job classification.  In an effort to ensure equity for each pay grade, pay range maximums exist as a control point for salaries.  However, all Katy ISD pay ranges are designed for adjustment to keep pace with the changing economy.  As such, reviews of pay ranges take place annually within Katy ISD.  </p><p>Katy ISD compensation plans can be found on the Human Resources web page under, Quick Links. </p><p>Katy ISD is grateful to its teachers and staff for their dedication, tireless efforts, and for continuously putting Katy ISD students first, every day.  </p><p style="text-decoration:underline;">Employee FAQs </p><p>When will staff see the 1% raise in their paychecks? </p><p>Employees will receive the one percent raise beginning with their first check of the 2020-2021 school year.  Each employee group has a work calendar that identifies their pay schedule.  Teachers’ first check of the 2020-2021 school year, for example, is on August 31. </p><p>Why doesn’t the District have a step schedule? </p><p>In Katy ISD teachers are paid similar to all employees on a pay scale with a minimum, midpoint, and maximum pay grade. A step schedule is a scale where teachers move vertically up the scale. Katy ISD utilizes a one-year teacher hiring schedule for new hires. Each year a new one-year schedule is adopted. This year the hiring schedule was adjusted by $660, creating a new schedule. In years wherein the District can give significant raises, hiring schedules are adjusted by the larger raise amounts. In contrast, if the District were unable to give a raise and salaries were frozen, teachers would receive a creditable year of service, but would not receive an increase in pay. This again, would create an entirely new one-year hiring schedule. Because the raise is based on the midpoint of a hiring schedule for a specific year, when you compare one year to another you will find that sometimes the percentage of that midpoint, in this case $660 is more than the perceived step, and sometimes it can be less. Generally speaking, a teacher hiring schedule is more beneficial than a step schedule. Especially in years where significant raises can be given.  <br></p></div>

Katy ISD Teachers and Employees to See Six Percent Pay Increase ISD Teachers and Employees to See Six Percent Pay Increase2019-06-25T13:11:45Z<div class="ExternalClass15BA6AB5DBA340168BD24BF4C9F8813B"><div>This coming school year all Katy ISD employees will receive an approximate six percent pay increase, while teachers and instructional paraprofessionals will have the opportunity to earn up to eight percent. The additional two percent increase for those teachers and paraprofessionals will derive from an attendance-based performance incentive.</div><div><br></div><div>The base salary increase for employees will come in the form of an approximate four percent raise, with two other lump sums during the fall semester— one August 15 for returning staff, and the other in December for all employees.</div><div><br></div><div>"After making sure we reward all of our staff, there is some additional money we've set aside to focus on those folks who have the greatest impact on student performance — our classroom teachers," said Ken Gregorski, Katy ISD Superintendent.</div><div><br></div><div>The District also plans on providing stability through its benefits package. While some Texas school districts anticipate premium increases this coming school year, Katy ISD will be holding its benefit premiums at last year's rates. Likewise, the District's existing health insurance plans will remain unchanged.</div><div><br></div><div>"My commitment upon accepting this position was to focus on taking care of our employees through a competitive compensation package, thus ensuring we're able to recruit and retain the best teachers around," said Gregorski.  "This pay increase, alongside the stability in benefits costs, is the most significant investment in Katy ISD's employee compensation package in recent District history," he added.</div><div><br></div><div>Katy ISD's move to increase pay for all employees and offer additional compensation incentives for teachers, is in part due to the District's long term fiscal management practices, along with the passage of Senate Bill 500 that provides Harvey related refunds and House Bill 3, with the District's compensation plan exceeding the priorities established by the Texas Legislature.<br></div></div>
