Stan C. & Patsy Stanley

  • Little did anyone who attended the Eagle Scout ceremony for three young men on December 4, 1958, know that one of the scouts in the spotlight would grow into the very embodiment of the citizen every Eagle hopes to become. Or perhaps they did.

Today, when people speak of Stan Stanley, they describe him as "tireless," "selfless," "a truly remarkable individual," "a true hero and leader," "a man who has dedicated his entire adult life to the service of others." They speak of his "exceptional commitment to our children and the importance of guiding their development." They describe the way he "leads in the quietest fashion behind the scenes," characterizing him as "driven by the importance of serving our community and the children," wanting only "the satisfaction of seeing our children grow into productive members of society."

The namesake of Stan Stanley Elementary School has distinguished himself as a tireless supporter of Katy ISD and the Katy community -- relentless in his continuous efforts to make the Katy area a better place to live, work and learn. The founder of Stanley Signature Products, he has been a resident of Katy since 1977. He serves on the Board of Directors of Tradition Bank and is a member of the Board of Directors of the Katy Area Chamber of Commerce, which he chaired in 2001. His efforts to help the area attract major corporate relocations, high-end businesses and quality growth, led to his involvement in the formation of the Katy Area Economic Development Council in 2003. He served as founding chairman of the KAEDC in 2003-04 and continues as a member of its executive committee.

Actively involved in scouting for 55 years, he has served the Boy Scouts of America Sam Houston Area Council in a succession of leadership posts including his current role as Council Commissioner since 2007, Division Commissioner from 2003-2006, and Commissioner of the Mustang District from 1999-2001. He is also a member of the Executive Committee for Sam Houston Area Council. Mr. Stanley was Scoutmaster of Troop 209 in Katy from 1977-1985 and served various roles until his selection as District Commissioner in 1999. He is a Vigil Honor member of the Order of the Arrow, a national service organization in Scouting.

In 2002, Mr. Stanley was honored as the Katy-Area Chamber of Commerce Citizen of the Year, and in 2006 was named a Hero for Children by the State Board of Education. He serves on the Katy ISD Partners in Education Advisory Board and is a KEYS mentor. He was a member of the school district's bond committees in 2002 and 2006, and played a leadership role in rallying support for those bond campaigns.

One of the founders of Holy Covenant Methodist Church and the first chairman of its Board of Trustees, Mr. and Mrs. Stanley are currently members of St. Peter's United Methodist Church. He has received the Cross and Flame Award and the Torch Award for Service to the United Methodist Church.

Mr. Stanley credits his wife Patsy, a retired teacher and counselor, for supporting his efforts to help make the Katy area a better community for our youth. The Stanleys are very proud of their three daughters, Reesa, Michelle and Rhonda, their husbands, and four grandchildren.
